For thousands of years, the cycle of the moon has had spiritual significance, especially the New and Full Moons. The new moon represents the start of a new lunar cycle and symbolizes new beginnings. The new moon is the phase that is invisible to us here on Earth because the moon is between the earth and the sun, and its illuminated side is facing away from us.
We can use the energy of the new moon to set intentions and goals for the coming month. It can be a powerful time to start a new project. It is also a time to reflect on old goals and set new ones.
The new moon is powerful time to plant a seed of what you want to grow in your life.
If you would like to harness the new moon to set intentions and plant seeds for the coming month, you can do your own new moon ritual.
How to Conduct your own New Moon Ritual
Here is an idea of what you can for your own New Moon Ritual. However, you don’t need really need to do all of this if you don’t want. The most important thing is to do what works for you.
Choose a place that is quiet, peaceful and private for your New Moon Ritual. Many people like to do their rituals outside. You don’t want to be disturbed while you are doing your ritual. I do mine in my beautiful home office.
Cleanse you area
You may like to cleanse your area by smudging with sage or playing some music that clears the space (I like Wholetones frequencies - available on Spotify and YouTube).
Set up an Altar
Light your candles. You may like to have one or many.
Take three or more slow breathes, breathing out with sound. This will ground you in the moment and bring you back into your body.
Set Your Intention
Write down your intentions in a journal.
- New goals/intentions
- Reflecting on your previous goals
- What do you want to achieve or change
I often like to pull a card from a spiritual card deck to get a special message. Write down your reflections of the message in our journal.
Say a Prayer of Thanks
I like to end the ritual with a prayer of thanks or gratitude for the ritual and to bless my intentions.
Blow Out Candles
Finish the ritual by extinguishing your candle.
Nurturing Your Intentions
You may like to write our your intentions and put them somewhere you can see them each day. You can also journal about your intentions in the coming days and weeks.
I have seen significant changes in my life as a result of rituals around the new and full moon. I have seen my intentions come to fruition more easily if I have set them on the new moon. With my full moon ritual, I have been able to let go of things that I was struggling with.
Do you have your own new and full moon rituals? I'd love to know what you do in your ritual and what benefits it has had for you.
